once again been extended. The current CCA scheme started in 2013 and has since been extended twice. These voluntary agreements are made between UK\u00a0business and the\u00a0government, with the goal of reducing energy use and carbon dioxide emissions.<\/p><p>The goal is to allow businesses operating within energy intensive industry sectors to reduce the cost of the current\u00a0Climate Change Levy\u00a0(CCL) on their electricity and gas bills.<\/p><p>We look at why businesses should submit their application as soon as they can.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-a596834 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a596834\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-69e957a4\" data-id=\"69e957a4\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb8c4af elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"eb8c4af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who is eligible?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82cb217 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"82cb217\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Department of Energy and Climate Change negotiated with relevant industry sectors to decide upon energy efficiency targets. These targets were then included in \u2018umbrella\u2019 agreements between industry sectors (\u2018sector associations\u2019) and the government. Businesses that operate sites must first apply to their sector association before they can enter into a CCA.<\/p><p>These high-level agreements also include a list of processes required for a business to become eligible for a CCA, such as:<\/p><ul><li>A process at a site which is considered energy intensive by the Environment Agency,<\/li><\/ul><p>or<\/p><ul><li>A process that is controlled under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.<\/li><\/ul><p>CCAs are applicable to a range of industries &#8211; from plastic moulding and metal packaging, to agricultural businesses such as pig and poultry farming. Eligible businesses can\u00a0save up to 92% on their electricity and 83% on gas from payment of the CCL (Climate Change Levy). Meaning a CCA can make a significant difference to your energy bills and business as a whole.<\/p><p>It is a requirement of the CCA for a business to report on its energy use and carbon emissions. These statistics will then be measured against agreed targets over 2-year target periods, up to the end of 2022. A business can hold a CCA\u00a0for each site, or choose to group them together under one. If grouped under one\u00a0CCA\u00a0the target is then spread across the grouped facilities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d40200e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d40200e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What does this mean for new entrants?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-72f55b3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"72f55b3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The extension of the deadline means that new, eligible companies still have time to get their applications in to the Environment Agency. But they must do this fast. The deadline for applications is now 31\u00a0March 2022. New applications are made via the relevant industry sector association. But it should be noted that some sectors are setting an earlier deadline, so check with your industry body.<\/p><p>The reopening of the scheme is an opportunity for new entrants to benefit from Climate Change Levy (CCL) savings. This means reduced rates until March 2025.
